Joe has been talking about running a 5K for a little while this Fall to motivate him to start exercising more. Several races came and went without any running on Joe's behalf. The last race of the year was not going to slip away. Joe finally bucked up and registered for the Santa Dash 5K in St. Charles. After a few days, Celeste decided she wanted to run the race as well. This would be exactly the 6 week mark since the birth of Levi. Celeste was one of the last five participants to register as there were over 3,000 runners.
The race is a pretty sweet set-up and gives participants a Santa shirt, white beard, white gloves, a Santa hat, and a red bag. Pretty sweet deal for $35 dollars. The girls really wanted us to try on our outfits before the race and they even wanted to see how they looked.
We couldn't believe how many people participated in this race. Celeste said there was more people running than living in St. Johns. Sonja quickly corrected her that there were double that in St. Johns:) Either way, there was a lot of people there to run.
Celeste and Joe ran together the whole time and actually ran the whole race, never stopping or walking. It was good for them to run together as Joe went a little faster than Celeste which pushed her and Celeste went a little slower than Joe which made sure Joe did not burn himself out. The above picture is just the proof we needed to show that there was many that finished behind us. Overall, Celeste took 90 in her age class and Joe took 89. Celeste did place higher, however, since her age group was almost three times bigger than Joe's . It was so much fun running our first race together and hopefully there will be many races together to come.
